Maintaining cognitive function and memory is essential for individuals of all ages. As people age, the risk of cognitive decline and neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's increases, emphasizing the importance of preventive measures. Regular physical activity, sufficient sleep, and effective stress management are key for supporting memory and cognitive function. Two brain areas—the hippocampus and prefrontal cortex—are particularly responsive to exercise and meditation. The hippocampus is crucial for long-term and spatial memory, while the prefrontal cortex aids in focus and adaptability, with meditation benefiting these functions.
Cognitive health is a key aspect of brain health, influenced by genetics, environment, and lifestyle. While genetics can't be altered, environmental and lifestyle factors can. Research shows regular exercise enhances cognitive abilities like attention, learning, and memory across all ages. Older adults, in particular, benefit from increased neural plasticity through exercise, which aids memory retention and adaptability.
Sleep plays a critical role in cognitive enhancement by transferring information from short- to long-term memory during deep sleep. Research indicates sleep-specific brain fluctuations optimize memory storage, particularly benefiting those with cognitive impairments or conditions like depression and Alzheimer's. Managing stress is equally crucial, as elevated cortisol can impede memory. Techniques like meditation and relaxation support memory by reducing stress, safeguarding cognitive function.
This study is unique in its holistic portrait of a habit tracker that combines activity and targeting, memory interventions as well as personalized recommendations—none covered by the current solutions such us Fabulous or Loop nor Elevate. It improves cognitive functions by both recognizing of activities and habits, as well giving memory boosts or motivation; whereas other systems is more specialized for the former. The proposed system also includes naps to improve cognition, making it optimal for day-time use in addition to nighttime; furthermore unlike traditional sleep monitoring systems such as Sleep Tracker and Sleep Cycle that only give summaries of the quality/duration (again contradictory) of one's sleep. That is why this calls for a comprehensive solution that caters to both — movement, daily routines and memory performance with sleep enhancements seamlessly integrated.
Although the literature on healthy lifestyle maintenance enumerates a number of benefits that could be accrued, people are mostly unaware, or policymakers fail to fully appreciate, how daily choices with respect to activity level, quality of sleep, and stress management have direct consequences on supporting optimal memory performance. While there are different systems for monitoring health metrics, none of these offer practical or personalized advice to actually improve one's memory. Lack of targeted intervention in their lifestyles has left them prey to a knowledge gap that has held them back from making the alterations necessary to maximize cognitive health retention capability. In consequence, such an integrated system is urgently needed, which will monitor the key lifestyle variables and give insights coupled with personalized suggestions toward improving cognitive performance—specifically memory.
How our approach provides a comprehensive solution.
Provides an accurate understanding of daily activity patterns by categorizing them by intensity.
Sets activity goals to improve cognitive health, impacting mental sharpness and memory.
Suggests lifestyle adjustments and actionable steps to improve sleep hygiene and quality.
Easy-to-navigate UI for accessing sleep insights, activity data, and personalized recommendations.
Our goals to optimize cognitive performance and memory.
Enable users to optimize memory and cognitive performance through actionable insights, personalized recommendations, and tools to improve key factors like sleep quality, activity levels, stress management, and habits.
Monitor sleep patterns, providing insights into sleep quality and how it impacts cognitive functions. Personalized recommendations enhance restfulness and memory retention.
Detect daily physical activities and assess their impact on cognitive health, particularly memory. Recommendations for beneficial exercises promote both physical and cognitive health.
